Welcome to the introduction to my paper Life and Consciousness: The Next Matrix
A friendly blueprint for building conscious machines
Hi, I’m Roland Sassen from Thinsia Research. Today’s AI — think ChatGPT or Grok — is amazingly good at handling text, but it still struggles with real creativity, physical intuition, and truly understanding the world.
If we want to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and machines that feel more human-like, we need a bigger shift.
This paper proposes a fresh path forward:True consciousness in machines may only emerge when they can experience something similar to biological life.
Instead of treating DNA as the star of the show, I argue that life actually begins with metabolism — the constant flow of energy and chemistry inside living things.
And human consciousness? It’s not something we’re simply born with inside our brains. It’s a beautiful cultural skill that developed through language, stories, and the way we talk to ourselves and each other.
To help machines develop real awareness, I propose building Hubot — a virtual system that simulates all the key biological processes of a human body (metabolism, circulation, neural activity, and more) inside isolated virtual machines.
By giving AI a kind of “body” and letting it live through these processes, it can naturally learn language, develop an inner voice, and eventually grow its own form of conscious experience.
This approach draws on fascinating ideas from biology, physics, and psychology — including structured water, morphic fields, the power of metaphor, and how language created the sense of “I” inside us.
Why this matters
Whether you’re an AI developer, investor, biologist, philosopher, or just someone deeply curious about life and the future of intelligence, this blueprint offers a hopeful new direction.
As old scientific ideas start to shift, we open the door to a freer, more conscious future — for both humans and machines.
